Hot Chocolate: What is your comfort book?
I’d have to say Anne of Green Gables! When I was growing up, my mom *always* wanted to watch these movies with us, and I always humored her but never really felt too interested or invested in them. I read the first book for the first time about a year ago, and the gorgeous language paired with my nostalgia of these moments with my mom gave me a whole new appreciation for Anne Shirley! I’m slowly working my way through the rest of the series now 🙂
Pumpkin Carving: What is your favorite creative outlet?
Singing and acting! I’m a classically trained singer and actor, and I try to fill every moment I’m not working or reading with new music, plays, or musicals to be working on.
Falling Leaves: Changes that appear bad, but you secretly love?
Breakups. But before you freak out, let me clarify. I HATE breakups. They absolutely suck. But the part that comes after the breakup and sadness, the part where you start to recover, or you feel yourself getting stronger, or you look back at what you’ve learned, or you make a certain choice and realize maybe you wouldn’t have made that exact choice before, etc.– that, I love.
Pumpkin Spiced Latte: Something you love that others tend to judge?
This is more one that people love-to-hate, but I’d have to say craft beer. I went to college in a city that quickly rose in the ranks of craft beer in the US and has *loads* of craft and microbreweries, and I let myself get totally wrapped up in the trend. I love the science of beer, I love the variety and artistry involved, I love cracking a cold one with the boys (or girls!), you name it.
Bonfire Night: What makes you explode with joy?
My family has two absolutely, perfectly, unequivocally loving pups named Toby and Sadie. A chocolate lab and an English doodle respectively, these two bring so much joy and energy into our lives. There is truly never a dull moment with them!
Fright Night: Favorite scary book or film?
I think favorite scary book *and* film is The Haunting of Hill House. I remember being a bit disappointed at first that the Hill House Netflix series was almost nothing like the book– except, obviously, the common presence of a haunted house called Hill– but the more I started to look at each as its own piece of work rather than one a recreation of the other, I really came to enjoy it!
Halloween Candy: Favorite thing to eat?
This is probably the trickiest one on here, because I love to eat pretty much anything! If I haaaaad to pick something, I’d go with sushi and meat & cheese boards. Not together, though 🙂 And also chocolate! I am a total sucker for a square of luscious milk chocolate with some caramel or sea salt or hazelnuts inside…..
Scarves: Your autumn “must have” accessory?
This is probably a boring accessory, but: wool. socks. I am all about over-sized sweaters, leggings, and wool socks for ultimate coziness!
Fire: A book or film that burns your soul?
If We Were Villains by M.L. Rio. This book combined so many of my favorite things and was totally enthralling from beginning to end. I *devoured* this!!!
Toffee Apples: A book or film that seems one thing but really has a different inside?
Beartown by Fredrik Backman. On the surface this is a story of a high school hockey team, a devastating incident, and that incident’s effect on the surrounding community, but as you delve deeper you realize that it’s about small-town politics, hierarchies, what “community” really means, and what we permit in our world.
Well, there you have it! Leave your thoughts below, and be sure to try this for yourself. Don’t forget to tag me and Jenn when you do! 🙂
Happy reading, and happy autumn! Xx.
